You've seen some wild fixed blade knives in your day, but this is one for the books. A kukri is a forward turned knife originally used as an agricultural machete to clean bush with little effort. Once they were militarized, the Gurkha units of Southeast Asia began issuing them as close combat weapons. The Brigade of Gurkhas holds over 4,000 appointed soldiers in different areas of the British Army. The original company was in India before the country declared independence from Britain, but not before it adopted a local fixed blade knife with a distinct curve called a kukri, or khukri. The military not only gave out these machetes as personal melee weapons, but also provided training to show their soldiers how to effectively use the knife. With the recurved bowie blade shape, this jungle machete took a bit more training than a regular straight blade.

This classic version of the Gurkha kukri has a dull 11.5-inch full tang blade forged of high carbon steel, meaning it can be sharpened with the right tools and knowledge. The blade bends forward less than halfway to the point, and runs down through the tapered wooden handle. The handle is polished smooth with an elegant varnish on the wood to bring out the grains, and the center has a ring to provide grip when swinging this bowie knife around. Most kukris come with a protective sheath, and this classic knife is no different. The faux leather sheath is black, has stitching along the side, and has the point tip reinforced with a large brass bracket.

With a full length of just under 18 inches and a total weight of about 30 ounces, this full tang recurve machete is a great addition to a Gurkha uniform, or sharpened up, and excellent jungle knife that won't let you down.
