This samurai sword is approximately 40.5 inches in length, with a fierce 30-inch blade that strikes like a dragon's tongue. The sharpened blade is forged from 1060 carbon steel, a high quality grade of steel that is both hard enough to hold a sharp edge, and strong without being inflexible. Forged in fire, the blade's edge is razor sharp and powerful like the dragon of its namesake. This sword is not only full-tang, but hand-forged with a genuine hamon line that results from the skilled clay tempering process used in authentic Japanese sword-making.
Not only is the blade made with painstaking care, the wooden tsuka (handle) is covered with real ray skin! This textured material, gifted by the magnificent stingray, gives the wooden handle more surface area for a secure hold. The genuine rayskin is protected by a black cotton cord wrapping around the entire 11.5 inch handle, which also provides a great grip when wielding your katana sword. The adornments, or menuki, on the tsuka are made from brass, which matches the tsuba beautifully. This round brass handguard is 3 inches in diameter and has a dragon design. The tsuba and the menuki have a black finish to compliment the black cotton wrapping along its length.
This thick cotton cord wrap repeats on the wooden scabbard, providing continuity without taking attention away from the rich burgundy color. The saya is painted with a highly pigmented burgundy, and given a glossy lacquered finish to really increase the vibrancy.
