This handsome 40.5-inch samurai sword is hand-forged using the clay tempering method. The 28.5-inch 1060 carbon steel blade has been honed to a razor sharp edge, with a genuine hamon line separating the sharpened edge from the back of the blade. Each side has a blood groove running its entire length to lighten the blade's weight, increasing speed and agility when wielding the katana. Like other sharp full tang samurai swords, this sword is fully functional if you choose to use it as a weapon. The tang extends the length of the handle, so the katana is sturdier; With the blade anchored, it's unlikely to separate from the handle when its integrity is challenged.

The 11.5-inch tsuka is covered in real ray skin and wrapped with black cotton cord in the traditional fashion. The white ray skin has a rough texture, perfect for the wrapping to grab onto, and suited for maintaining a secure hold. The pattern of the thick cotton cord wrap creates a comfortable, solid grip. The gold-colored ornamental pieces, or menuki, are fastened onto the handle underneath the wrap. Japanese samurai often included ornaments that had personal meaning for them, believing they would be protected in battle.

The 3-inch diameter brass tsuba is black and gold, with a ridged outer edge. This circular hand guard resembles a wheel, with 8 spokes around a central point. The tsuba serves the practical purpose of protecting your hands and fingers from injury. This one adds to the regal motif of this katana sword, looking like a relic from an ancient kingdom.
