Tribal Rattan Escrima Stick
+ DESCRIPTION
This escrima is crafted of a single piece of rattan, a slender growing reed plant found in Southeast Asia. In the Philippines, the warriors guided these fibrous reeds to grow straight, cut and dried them, then would mark them with hot coals by burning individual designs into their weapons. This triangular pattern would have been burned into the weapons belonging to a single clan, so the fighters could identify their own kind.
This peeled rattan baston stretches 28 inches long, is about 1 inch in diameter, and has a mass of about 8 ounces. These measurements are approximations, as the reed never grows the same way twice and this causes variations. The peeled staff gives a smooth look and feel without eliminating the natural texture that makes gripping this escrima possible. It won't leave splinters in your palm, nor will it shatter like wood if you have burst of tribal strength.
Take home this rattan stick as a spare, a replacement, or a new option to use while you work on drills of accuracy and speed. The unique burn design will help you pick it out of a stack at the dojo, as you'll know that it is part of your clan.
